65 Birthday Workout
It’s happened I have hit 65, and I have just completed my 65 Birthday Workout, with Indian Clubs, Persian Mil and Gada – Mace.
The interesting thing is that, as time marches by, and continuous practice, your club swinging knowledge grows through experimentation and observation, and better still there seems no end to the variations that can be done. There is certainly no possibility of workout boredom.
Hand to Eye co-ordination has started to completely fascinate me of late, the Indian Club sequence you will see is a routine I have designed to combine asynchronous (alternating) swings and move between variations without stopping the the clubs.
Indian Club demonstration
Standard synchronous outward heart shaped swings
Indian Cross reverse
Standard synchronous inward heart shaped swings
Straight arm side reverse
Standard synchronous outward heart shaped swings
Change to
Asynchronous outward heart shaped swings
Change to
Asynchronous parallel heart shaped swings to the right
Change to
Asynchronous inward heart shaped swings
Change to
Asynchronous parallel heart shaped swings to the left
Change to
etc…..
As you watch you will see that this routine is designed as an infinite loop.
Persian Mil demonstration
Following my visit to Iran in 2014, I have spent a considerable amount of time learning and practicing some of the movements I saw in Iranian Zurkhaneh, in particular one in the city of Shiraz and the other in Yazd.
There are two Persian Mil demonstrations, and the only way that I can describe the movements is by calling them HALF BEATS.
Both variations require one club to accelerate and the other to slow down, and both routines require Hand to Eye co-ordination.
Gada – Mace demonstration
Following last years visit to India I was totally captivated by the one handed Gada swinging I saw used in preparation for Jori Club training. One handed Gada swinging made me step into unknown territory. It is without doubt challenging.
The Persian Mil made me look at the Gada with fresh eyes, and after trying the standard inward single handed cast with the Gada, I decided to try it in reverse, or outward. After a few very clumsy attempts I found that the swing could be done.
Next it became obvious that a single handed 10-2 should be possible. Again after a few swings it became apparent to me that it was do-able. So I started training, changing hands frequently at first, until I mastered controlling the Gada with one hand.
The dynamics are very different to two handed swinging, and at first the empty hand wants to go up and help. Which seems to be the biggest obstacle. This is mainly due to the uncertain flight path of the Gada head. However after practice you get the hang of it. Again this requires Hand to Eye co-ordination.
Hope you found this post interesting, and if you try any of the above, can you please send me a video.

Happy birthday Paul. Long years and happiness. I continue to follow your blog with fascination, you’ve brought a lot to this sport.
Hi Dmitry, Thank you for the birthday wishes. Thanks for following my blog. Club swinging is a never ending passion.
Mr. Paul Wolkowinski also looks very healthy, some of that must be diet. I don’t think at some time, a few pointers concerning diet or whatever else, might be helpful. Of course, I’m sure that Australian sun is helpful. Best regards and thank you for all you do. Indian food is great too but so some of my friends say one has to be a bit careful in that matter. Some Indian food they tell me say, has too much oil. You have to find the right ones.
Hi Tom,
Thanks for your comment. Health is a combination of training and diet.
I train 6 days a week, walk every day 40 minutes. Stretches 20 minutes.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I train with Kettlebells, Gada-Mace and Indian Clubs. 90 minutes.
Tuesday and Thursday, I train with Persian Meels and Indian Clubs. 90 minutes.
Saturday training is for experimentation and trying out new ideas for Indian Clubs. 2 hours.
Diet is simple, lean meats, fish, and a lot of vegetables, I avoid processed food, salt and sugar as much as possible. No alcohol for eight years
Mainly cook at home.
Where do you live Tom?
I am in the USA, I have had to move around, Minnesota, New Mexico, Colorado and Texas. We will see. I had to get a change of scenery. Thank you.
I am always “Tom Sea” at your website on facebook. My good friend is a Zumba instructor at a gym, I actually enjoy that for cardio. But Yes, I am in the USA, United States, sorry if that was not clear.
Hey Tom, OK, I suspected it may be you but don’t think I new your sir-name before.
I am coming to the US on my Indian Clubs Tour 2015, I’ll be in LA, Dallas, New Orleans, and New York. I’m just waiting on final details of my workshops, and I’ll let you know. It would be great to meet up, if you want to.
