2lb Kehoe Clubs
2lb Kehoe Clubs are copies made from an original Sim D. Kehoe club, which was 20 inches long and 2 pounds in weight.
Thanks to
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my friend the collector, who wishes to remain anonymous, for giving me access to this rare club which I copied to make the 2lb Kehoe Clubs.
I would also like to dedicate this video to my friend the collector, and Izzy Barish who always makes great Indian Club videos to music, so I thought I would follow in his footsteps and choose a track that I really liked.

19th Century
Kehoe designed and made these clubs in the latter half of the 19th century, just for the record in those days Indian Clubs were frequently made from greenwood, which basically means, freshly cut. Due to the fact that the wood was freshly cut, it contained a lot of moisture, and many of Kehoe’s early clubs have dried out over the years making them progressively lose weight over the years.
I made the 2lb Kehoe Clubs from Australian Oak, and they came out weighing 2 pounds, which is exactly like the original. When I first tried them I thought the handles were a little bit and narrow but after having swung them for a while I really like them. I have to admit that these clubs are an absolute delight to swing, and very different to anything else I’ve swung before. As you can see from the design of the weight mass is well away from the wrist, which creates excellent torque.
From a manufacturing point of view, the oak blanks weighed in at 7 pounds each, and the 2lb Kehoe Clubs weigh 2 pounds each. So you can see there is massive wastage here in manufacturing them.
Hi Paul
Brilliant stuff – but where are the hidden strings on you wrists!!! You make the clubs swing like Pois and I think you’ve taken club swinging to a new level. Music is very liberating while swinging and it does tempt me to put in more moves, especially with the Teardrop clubs. I tried your own clubs in Sheffield and I think there is a slightly different balance to the Military style club, and I like the handle design. I would love a set of the clubs you are using here but I think freight to the UK would be prohibitive. Would it be possible to send a pattern which I could get to Mike to see if his turner could make these? Keep the videos coming – I can’t emulate you this morning (or ever, really) because we have snow and I can’t get into the garden, so it’s some Quijong ball work in the conservatory for me.
Hi Charles,
Music makes club swinging great fun. Definitely no strings here.
I love it. What a great beat, looks like your capturing Izzys style with the music and swinging. This was a fun video to watch and the new clubs look fun to swing. Keep up the fun.
Thank you Mark, I love swinging to music and keeping time.
Hi Paul
How can I buy your 2lbs clubs?
