Celebrating the Mace on International Womens Day 2018

Today, women across the world actively participate in many diverse fields, one of them being mastering exercise with the Gada (mace).

To celebrate International Womens Day 2018, I have the pleasure of presenting two interviews for the Indian Clubs PEOPLE page, in talking to two women about their use of the Gada (mace), one on each side of the Atlantic Ocean.

Valerie Pawlowski (USA) and Kirsten Moore (Scotland), both reflect on their beginnings and progress with the Gada (mace), and subsequent development. Click on their links to read the interviews.

I would also like to mention Kelly Manzone, Dina Enggaard and Deborah Southwick Bachli who have all embraced Gada (mace) exercise for some time, and actively post videos spreading awareness for the online community.

The Gada (mace) is one of the oldest types of weapons, it is a symbol of strength and was a common weapon for hand-to-hand combat. It is regarded as the strongest of weapons and destroyer of all enemies. Swinging the Gada (Mace) is a challenge, it is clumsyunbalanced and intended to be difficult to handle.

International Womens day 2018You will be interested to know that in Sanskrit the word ‘Gada’ is feminine, the Gada is regarded as a beautiful woman (life force). It is personified in ancient sculptures as a young woman, adorned with ornaments, holding a Gada (mace) and fly whisk (a symbol of royalty called a Camara).

The personified Gada (mace) is also known as Gada-devi (the suffix devi means goddess) or Gada-nari (gada-woman or club-woman).

From a current perspective, today’s common enemy is our sedentary lifestyle at work and at home, which leads to poor posture, a weak core, the lack of mobility, weakness and obesity.

The good news is that our sedentary lifestyle can be successfully defeated by a proficient Gada (Mace) user.

To all women (Gada-devi) who are strong, committed, compassionate, beautiful and unique. May you continue to inspire those around you.

Happy International Women’s Day 2018

Yours in Gada (mace) Swinging
